Pied Piper: A Hip Hop Dance Revolution

Pied Piper returns to the Barbican for Christmas!

Following a successful run earlier this year in the Barbican Theatre, the Olivier Award-winning hip-hop street dance spectacular Pied Piper returns this Christmas due to popular demand for a four-week run from Thursday 10 December 2009 – Sunday 3 January 2010.

The show, originally produced by Theatre Royal Stratford East in 2006 where it thrilled sell-out houses, closely follows the structure of the original poem by Robert Browning but this version of the morality tale is told from an edgy, modern perspective.

In a typical urban setting the rats become ASBO’d hooded youths. The Pied Piper, played by Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy, the show’s choreographer and co-founder of Boy Blue Entertainment, promises to rid the streets of the so-called vermin of society but when the city Governors renege on their deal the Pied Piper takes his revenge. The exhilarating energy of the young dancers creates an innovative and thrilling 90-minute performance.

Pied Piper is created by Boy Blue Entertainment. Original music is by Boy Blue Entertainment co-founder Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante and the show is directed and designed by ULTZ, an associate artist with Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante and Kenrick ‘H20’ Sandy founded Boy Blue Entertainment in 2001, with the aim of encouraging teenagers to embrace dance while teaching discipline, team building and exposing them to performance and story-telling. Since then it has provided access to dance training to more than 500 young people – many of whom perform in Pied Piper – and it is now East London’s most innovative street dance troupe.

    Dear BoyBlue,

I’ve seen Pied Piper twice and I really want to know where I can get hold of the soundtrack. I asked at the Barbican but they said they only had the tunes from the show before Pied Piper. Cold you tell me where I can get my hands on it? keep doing what you’re doing,

    Cheers,

    Ben

Just saw your last show at the Barbican and it gave me goosebumps pretty much all the way through. The kids were amazing, the music powerful and the dancing mesmirising. It’s a shame it was the last performance in London i know a lot of people that would have loved it. A great piece of work – Lovin’it!
